I love this dish because it is very versatile. You can eat the shrimp with rice, mashed potatoes, salad, pasta -- whatever you like! The flavor is quite strong, so if you have a delicate palate cut the amount of garlic and soy sauce in half.
Ingredients
20 shrimp
½ teaspoon oil
3 cloves of garlic, minced
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 tablespoons soy sauce
½ cup cilantro, finely chopped
½ cup onion, finely chopped
Fresh ground black pepper, to taste
In a bowl mix the butter, garlic and cilantro until it forms a consistent paste. In a saucepan, add the oil and cook the onions. When the onions are transparent and just a little bit golden brown, add a quarter of the garlic butter mix and one tablespoon of soy sauce.
The idea here is to create a flavorful base of onions, cilantro and garlic. Don't worry if you see some of this a little bit burnt, that's the most delicious part!
Use the rest of the garlic mixture to coat the shrimp and add the remaining tablespoon of soy sauce. Cook them on top of the onions and garlic.
Remember, shrimp should only cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side. That is why it is important to have the base of the flavors first to mix it with the shrimp when cooking both sides.
Once the shrimp are cooked, remove them from the pan and scrape the “burnt parts” out. Use these as one final hit of flavor on your beautiful shrimp. Ooh la la! So good!
With love, La Canana
